Amazing Exfoliators

Hello my wonderful readers! I hope you are all well. As the weather gets hotter, we often forget to take care of our skin, as it undergoes more showers, accidental tanning from being out all day, and even uneven moisturizing. I realize that the attitude for a lot of people during the hot and humid months is that “less is more”, but when considering the health of your skin, less may mean more damage to the delicate organ. Exfoliating has been used for hundreds of years, and never fails to help repair dry, flaky skin. Exfoliating can be done many ways, with chemical procedures, by waxing or shaving, and by gently scrubbing with minute abrasive particles, like salt, sugar, and crushed seeds. Today I am going to show you two different ways of exfoliation that are both cheap and easy to do. Today’s exfoliators can end up costing quite a bit, if you happen to use then quite frequently, so this is and quick switch for your favourite exfoliator. You can compare the results, and decide for yourself whichever you prefer to use, there’s nothing harmful in trying something new! Well, onto today’s post!

DIY Sugar and Honey Scrub

I love using this scrub for exfoliating my lips in the winter, as they often get chapped and dry due to the harshly low temperatures. I have sensitive skin, so it does not take much to irritate my skin. This scrub also works well as a body scrub. All you need for this scrub is just two ingredients, pure liquid honey and granulated sugar. For a lip scrub, I would mix together 1 tsp. of honey and about 1 ½ tsp. to 2 tsp. of sugar. Mix until it forms a consistency similar to a paste. A body scrub requires at least 3 tbsp. of honey, and 4 tbsp. of sugar. Mix well.

Alternative formula: If you desire a facial scrub, switch the granulated sugar for brown sugar, as it is gentler on the skin. Just remember to avoid the eye area to discourage unwanted injury. Use 1 tbsp. of honey, with 1 tbsp. of brown sugar.

Using a Face Cloth to Exfoliate

Another easy and relatively cheap way to exfoliate is by using an ordinary facial cloth. Wet the cloth with warm water, and gently scrub in small circular motions to remove any flaky patches of skin on the face, body, or lips. Contrary to popular belief, scrubbing the skin until it is raw is NOT healthy for the skin. Gently rub the cloth onto your skin. That is enough to give you a thorough exfoliating. I know a lot of beauty books suggest scrubbing your skin hard with a cloth to “get rid of” acne-prone skin to “scrub the oils out so new pimples will not form”. Trust me; it will irritate your skin. Acne-prone skin is very common, I even have it.

There you have it! Two easy ways to exfoliate, while saving money. Many people are allergic to ingredients such as walnut shells and some chemicals present in common exfoliators, so this post might also assist those looking for nut-free exfoliators, or paraben-free exfoliators. Thanks for reading today’s post. Now go out and find some sugar and honey!

Happy Exfoliating

Summer Smoky Eyes

Hello again my charming readers! I hope that all of you found something fun and exciting to do over the summer. I promised a summer smoky eyes tutorial, and here you go. This should take no more than 3 minutes to create, and even then it appears as if you spent hours attempting the perfect eye effect. The best part, about this look, is that it can be worn everywhere, as it is not too shimmery, glittery, or too plain. It is flattering on most skin tones, and even works for those who choose to wear glasses. I was originally going to use green, but I decided that purple would be the perfect color, as it represents the mystery and carefree nature of summer. I will list the products used at the end of the post, and photos of the product will be posted tomorrow. Let’s begin.

Step One- Before you start applying eyeshadow, apply concealer all over the under eye area and the lids. This will make the colours appear more vibrant, and also less likely to crease throughout the day. If you desire a different effect, please be free to skip this step.

Step Two- Take a bright purple cream eyeshadow, and apply it all over your lids and crease area with your finger. Gently blend the colour into your lids.

Step Three- With a square eyeshadow brush, gently swirl the brush into a dark purple cream eyeshadow, and place on the outer third of your eye. Go past the limits of your outer lids, and create a rounded shape similar to the on in the picture.

Step Four- Using an angled eyeshadow brush; pat a powder eyeshadow in a similar colour over the newly created outer limit of your lids. Gently blend the colour outwards.

Step Five- Select a rich dark brown eyeshadow, a shade like milk chocolate, and draw a subtle line going from the beginning of the outer third to the newly created ending. Sweep a bit of the brown on the natural outer “V” of your eyes.

Step Six- Using the same brown shade, and gently line the lower lash line, until the middle of the lashline. Blend inwards with you finger.

Step Seven- Finish off the look by curling lashes, and applying a light coat of mascara.

There you go! An easy take on a smoky eye, and it did not take very long. I hope you guys enjoyed this look, and I hope it inspired you to make your own summer smoky eye looks. The anime eyes tutorial will not be up for a while, as I am experimenting with many different colours, and cannot decide on the right one. Oh well, stay posted, I shall have other fun stuff by tomorrow.

Happy Shading

Fashionable Reads

Photo from Microsoft Word 2010

Hello again my brilliant readers! How are you guys today? The fashion and beauty world is a fast-paced and constantly morphing place. New faces come and go, and the same trends pop their fashionable heads up every now and then. The best place to go fill your fashion needs in doubt has to be…the library. The library may seem like a place only fit for just ordinary books, but you may be surprised on the amount of fashion and beauty books that you may dig up. Fashion lovers may draw inspiration from reading articles or even books written by their favorite designers and stylists. If you lean towards the makeup end of the spectrum, books sharing beauty tricks and inner-beauty tips may appeal more to you. If you’re a hardcore bookworm like I am, then you will have no trouble spotting a good read in the most unexpected places. The library is also good for those who want to pursue a career in the fashion and beauty industry. Reading books may also assist you in becoming ahead of the trends, instead of struggling to find them, if you follow them. It may also be the foundation for developing your own looks or style. Go on, and give that library a second look, you might just become reliant on it. Here are a few good reads :

Model- by Cheryl Diamond
This book is a memoir written by model Cheryl Diamond, about her first few years in the modeling business. I recommend this book, as it shows a hidden side of the modeling world, that we do not often see.

Who What Wear: Celebrity and Runway Style for Real Life- by Katherine Power and Hilary Kerr
Many of you might be familiar with the Who What Wear website. The creators of the website bring you a wonderful guide that is sure to get you out of any style bind, for any occasion.

Making Faces- Kevin Aucoin
Again, many of you may be familiar with this fantastic book, its hard not to notice the detail and timelessness within the many pages. This is a great read for makeup admirers, as it teaches both the basics and the unknown.

The Teen Vogue Handbook- by Teen Vogue
Filled with photographs on every page, this handbook is very helpful to those with budding careers, as it contains interviews with successful and well-known figures in the fashion and beauty industry.

I hope this post helped you readers, you never know what you can find in the library. If any of you are interested in subscribing to this blog, there are three options for doing so on the right-handed sidebar, by email, to comments, and through a reader. Well, enjoy the rest of the day.

Happy Reading
