Fashionable Reads

Photo from Microsoft Word 2010

Hello again my brilliant readers! How are you guys today? The fashion and beauty world is a fast-paced and constantly morphing place. New faces come and go, and the same trends pop their fashionable heads up every now and then. The best place to go fill your fashion needs in doubt has to be…the library. The library may seem like a place only fit for just ordinary books, but you may be surprised on the amount of fashion and beauty books that you may dig up. Fashion lovers may draw inspiration from reading articles or even books written by their favorite designers and stylists. If you lean towards the makeup end of the spectrum, books sharing beauty tricks and inner-beauty tips may appeal more to you. If you’re a hardcore bookworm like I am, then you will have no trouble spotting a good read in the most unexpected places. The library is also good for those who want to pursue a career in the fashion and beauty industry. Reading books may also assist you in becoming ahead of the trends, instead of struggling to find them, if you follow them. It may also be the foundation for developing your own looks or style. Go on, and give that library a second look, you might just become reliant on it. Here are a few good reads :

Model- by Cheryl Diamond
This book is a memoir written by model Cheryl Diamond, about her first few years in the modeling business. I recommend this book, as it shows a hidden side of the modeling world, that we do not often see.

Who What Wear: Celebrity and Runway Style for Real Life- by Katherine Power and Hilary Kerr
Many of you might be familiar with the Who What Wear website. The creators of the website bring you a wonderful guide that is sure to get you out of any style bind, for any occasion.

Making Faces- Kevin Aucoin
Again, many of you may be familiar with this fantastic book, its hard not to notice the detail and timelessness within the many pages. This is a great read for makeup admirers, as it teaches both the basics and the unknown.

The Teen Vogue Handbook- by Teen Vogue
Filled with photographs on every page, this handbook is very helpful to those with budding careers, as it contains interviews with successful and well-known figures in the fashion and beauty industry.

I hope this post helped you readers, you never know what you can find in the library. If any of you are interested in subscribing to this blog, there are three options for doing so on the right-handed sidebar, by email, to comments, and through a reader. Well, enjoy the rest of the day.

Happy Reading

More than Just Hairspray!

Hello my lovely readers! I hope you guys are enjoying yourselves. So, how many of you readers own hairspray? There’s a very good chance that the majority of you people own at least a can or two of this hair tamer. I own a few bottles, but they often become neglected and end up in my towel closet with every other ignored product in there. I still try to use them though. An ordinary can of hairspray can do more than just keep your hair in place. I put together three things that hair spray can do:

Gives shoes better grip- The grip on the bottom of new shoes and heels  have to be worn in for a long time before they become sturdy. You can get nice grippy footwear right away, by just spraying two coats of hairspray on the bottom of each shoe.

Gets rid of static on the inside of clothing- Everyone has that shirt that just clings, no matter what. Quickly spritz the inside of a top with hairspray, to get rid of the static cling.

Set your nails quickly- If you just painted your nails with nail varnish, and want them to dry quickly, hold the can of hairspray about a 15-30 cm away from your nails and lightly mist them two to three times. Your nails should instantly dry. DO not put the can too close to your nails, as it causes bubble to form in the varnish, causing peeling and chipping.

There you go, I hope that short article helped. I’m hoping that I will get a summer smoky eye look and an anime eyes look done soon, so stay posted. Have a great day everybody.

Happy Hairspray-ing

Its NARS Time !?!?!?!

Hello all you people! I’m going to get back on blogging more frequently, because that’s how I think it should be. So how have you guys been? I hope you’re ready for another review. It’s go time!

I am really excited to share this with all of you, as it is truly a worthwhile product, and is sure to please any of you. The product I am going to show you all is a NARS concealer. This is my first NARS product, and I was lucky to find it while I was at an out of town Sephora store. A woman who worked at the store helped me choose the right colour, after my difficulty to find the right shade for my skin tone. I could have gone lighter, but I chose the shade “Ginger” instead, after many trials of convincing. I was looking around the store for the exact product that I wanted, a concealer that covered up dark circles and did not have salmon undertones. I did not want to look for a brightening concealer, just a product that applied flawlessly and did the job with little effort. Since that was the case, I came across, in my opinion, one of the best concealers out there.

So what makes this concealer so special?

It’s opaque colour goes on smoothly, without having to spend a significant amount of time to blend it in. The wonderfully creamy formula does not get cakey or crackly on the surface of your skin.It stays on the whole day, without dehydrating the skin.

here's my eye before the concealer :)

blend away!

After the concealer is applied :D

I actually went biking for an hour while wearing just the concealer on my face, and it stayed on without sliding off or melting. The design of the product is pretty genius, as well. The convenient twist up tube, reminiscent of a lipstick, gives the user full control of the product. The streamline and tapered end allows for the concealer to be applied in narrow areas, like around  the nose.In my opinion, it is ideal for beginners to use as it is not messy like a liquid concealer. Another great feature of this product is that it is pretty compact, so it can be carried around in your pocket, purse, or even your gymbag. I hope you take this review into consideration, as this concealer provides natural coverage without having to slather on a lot of product. Take care, everyone! Oh,before I forget, if any of you are interested in this talented product, here are two links where you will definitely find it. Thanks for reading.

Summer Beauty Kit

Howdy, you avid readers! Summer is the perfect time to play around with different looks without any boundaries. Whatever your style, you must have a “kit” that can be used at any time to suit your fashion and beauty needs, which makes changes effortless and easy to do. Here are some of the summer essentials that should be part of this "kit".Click on the words in to go to the product links:

A lip stain- Leave all of those heavy lip products at home, and try a lip stain.  You do not even feel the product on your lips, and it last longer than any ordinary lipstick or lip gloss. Just prep lip with a lip cream, and away you go. The great part is that you can control the intensity of the colour yourself. Try: Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Stain

A bright coloured eyeshadow- Eyeshadow is a versatile product, as it can be used as both an eyeliner and an eyeshadow. Choose a bright hue as your summer staple, and go explore the different looks you can create. Smokey eyes, winged liner, and even a simple swipe of the eyeshadow can be created. You never know unless you try and find the makeup looks.Try: Max Factor Colour Effects Trio Eye Shadow

A concealer- Foundation can be a tad drippy and annoying in the summer, because of all the humidity and that many of us stay up late during the summer. This leads to a poor will to scrub off all that makeup. Investing in a stellar concealer results in less product being put all over your face, and less time removing a whole face-full of cosmetics. Try: Nars Concealer

The Spin Pin- This is the perfect time of the year to experiment with the numerous styles of difficult hair buns and updos. The Spin Pin by Goody replaces the many pins that would be required for a simple bun, to make your day easier. Try: Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin

Sunscreen- Getting sunburned while everybody is having fun, is no fun for you. Protect yourself from the harmful effects the warm and friendly sun can have on your delicate skin by armoring yourself with sunscreen. Try: Banana Boat Ultra Defense Sunscreen SPF 50 Lotion

Those are just a few of your items that should be a part of your breezy summer style. Less products means more time to do other things, and enjoying your summer while you can. What’s part of your summer kit? Send me a tweet at http://twitter.com/#!/electric_blush or leave a comment.

Have Fun

Dark Circles

Hello everybody, how has your day been? Well mine was pretty good, except I noticed something odd. School has been keeping me up until the wee morning hours finishing projects, studying, blah blah blah. All of that determination and lack of sleep is finally over, but it has left me with dark circles and blemished skin. When I do not get enough sleep, my skin gets unpredictable and dark circles form. Well, don't get me wrong, I already had dark circles, but they were not noticeable. Dark circles are common, most of us are naturally "gifted" ( what a gift) with them. There are many creams and serums that can "get rid of" these harmless skin issues, but a few simple tips can help to reduce the appearance of them. Dark circles can appear due to many health and environmental factors, such as age, sleep deprivation, bruising, rubbing the eyes, genetics and even seasonal allergies. Often times, a change of diet, medication or even just leaving your eyes alone can banish dark circles for your face, or at least make them less noticeable. Now that the problem is solved , I can give you four tips that may help you diminish the appearance of these guys. Let's start!
