Enjoying the Little Moments of Life

Howdy! It seems that I've taken up the role of the elusive blogger, rather than one that can't stop raving about the newest mascara. Sometimes, its good to take a break. I've kind of let school take a huge bite out of my available free time, as I recently switched universities. Its close to the one that I used to attend, but now that I'm another year wiser ( let's be real, I still have no idea how to study properly) according to the school system, I have more, er, knowledge to absorb. I know, what a drag. It's taken me a while to get into the swing of things, but already having friends at this new school made things a lot easier. It doesn't hurt that any new people that hang around are super approachable and enthusiastic.

I will admit, it can be hard at times to appreciate these things. Especially when your routine at school ( or work, home, etc.) can make you feel like your a wind up toy that only stops to rest once you run into a wall, and nobody is there to wind you back up again. It's currently 2:07 AM as I am writing this. Kind of an odd time to be up and writing, but for a busy college student, this is still "early" in my evening. All puns aside, it makes a huge difference in your day, after a lab that ran over its scheduled time ( didn't know it was possible to be half an hour OVER a three hour ochem lab) if you happen to receive a text from a bunch of your friends asking you to come grab a bit of questionable tacos at the cafeteria to unwind. It may not seem like much; while you debate the identity of that taco that may or may not be filled with shredded chicken, and laugh about spilling your whole sample of extracted chemicals onto the floor.

Learning to look back and appreciate all of the little things in your life may be the one thing that finally gets you to your degree, even if those wonderful ochem labs seem to be running later and later.

Well, I'm off to go study. Good luck to all of you first timers with your midterms ( and hey, you second years can try to get a little bit more shut eye, too)

Tip of the Day- SPF, Your New BFF

The sun is shining, and the beach is just calling your name, so why waste any time putting on any heavy products. Bathing suit season isn't meant for cloying face products, plus the water will wash them off anyways. Not like you can harm you're skin from an hour lounging by the pool, its better to go natural in the summer, right?

Wrong.

As much as we all hate to apply sun screen or sun block and risk looking like one of those lily-white children from a retro Christmas special, its better to look the fool than be the one that risks healthy skin, just to show off how "sick" your tan has become.

Though it sucks to have to reapply it over and over again, its less risky than having to fork over some serious cash for expensive treatments, that most likely won't be able to repair a lot of the damage done to YOUR skin.

The much coveted tan of North America can still be acheived, as there are a bunch of sun protectants on the market that will delay the tanning process, while protecting the skin from the most harmful UVA/UVB rays, and that's even if its applied properly.

C'mon. If you have 30 minutes to spare curling your hair before you enter a pool and wreck that work of art, then I'm sure you can manage the same amount to protect the most visible organ: your skin.

Try to avoid cosmetics that have built-in sunscreen (BB creams, I'm looking at you), as there is usally not enough of the protectant in the product itself, to do the job right. Just stick to applying sunscreen before makeup, and afterwards ( usually between 1-2 hours) of first applying the sunscreen. Also, avoid using just body or sun lotion, as the sunscreen for the face may not be as effective as the body one, and the body sunscreen may irritate your face It may be a hassle, but you'll save yourself the time and effort of trying to repair deep wrinkles, or even something as extreme as melanoma.

Be smart, stay chic, and make sure to pack extra sunscreen.

Confession: Singin' the Blogger Blues

Writing was always something that I enjoyed doing. The only exception that I can make is of literary essays; I think we can all agree on how much fun they suck out of creative writing.

To be honest, I made a promise this year to keep up with my blog writing. I kept setting goals for myself, and taking pride in following a more regular schedule, but it appears that I have ,er, fallen off the blogging bandwagon. Why? There's not a single reason that I can give, other than for the fact that I didn't want to keep second-guessing my writing.

I always have so many ideas for article to write on this blog, to share my musing with you guys. As soon as I get home, I write down all of my ideas onto sticky notes, and post them on my mirror, as a way to visualize the concepts for the articles. However, I felt as of my ideas were coinciding with those of other beauty bloggers, and a lot of my material would resemble work that other bloggers had put out a few moments before I hit the publish button. I've decided to abandon the notion of backtracking with my own ideas, because it's not worth losing one of my favourite things, to something as small as writer's anxiety.

I also took a break because I wanted to focus on making my content worth reading, and develop more of a "voice" for my posts. Like you guys, I get bored to death by bloggers who say the same thing in every post; it wouldn't be fair for you to go through such a tortuous ritual anyways.

Out with the old, and in with the new.

Back into the Swing of Things

Hello there!
As a bunch of you readers have noticed, I haven't been posting for about several weeks, and boy, I wanted to blog so badly! I am currently enrolled in university and am loving every bit of my experience, as I am finally settled in and used to how things work. My lack of posts was due to me feeling as if I would only have time to do reviews, and not everything else that I had planned, so I decided to just take a break, and focus on getting used to a new experience and forming a new routine to incorporate everything.I shall try to use my Instagram account more often, seeing as I created an account without using it (who knows, may end up as one of those people who obsessively post stuff, but let's hope not). Well, since I've been gone for a while, what have you guys been up to lately?

Catch you on the flip side,

Electric Blush   xo

Electric Blush Turns Two!!

Hello everyone! I am happy to announce the second birthday of the Electric Blush blog! The official "birthday" of my blog actually occurred a couple of days ago, but regardless, it is an exciting milestone for me! I would like to thank each and every reader that has ever visited my blog, as it means  a lot to me that somebody could stop by and read my musings. I am still surprised that I have readers from all over the world, when there are so many other beauty blogs to choose from!

Though there have been less blog posts this year, it was due to my decision to be more dedicated to my studies, as it was my last round of exams for the year. Thank you for being so understanding and sticking around, as it may have been frustrating to see minimal updates. Well, a new of blogging brings around some new changes, so let's see how I can improve! Have a wonderful day, and thank you for reading.

Latest Music Obsessions

Hey everyone! My, oh my! Its already the last few day of May. I don't know about you, but I have been listening to several songs nonstop, and I am loving the transition of pop and soul music back into the type of music I was feeling nostalgia for. Here are some of my fav songs of the month.

                                                            Fine China- Chris Brown

Though this is not the official music video, I still find that Chris Brown's dancing is pure talent that is just awesome to watch.

The Way- Ariana Grande ft. Mac Miller

So the first thing that came to mind when I first heard this song was that Mariah Carey came out with a new song. Boy, was I wrong. Ariana Grande can really sing, and I hope she gets more exposure in the music world.

                                                         Tunnel Vision- Justin Timberlake

If you're one of the people that is fangirling over the 20/20 Experience, then this song will take all of that enthusiasm to a whole new level.

                                                              Deepest Shame- Plan B

One of my favourite artists that raps and sings. This song is sure to get stuck in your head eventually. Don't fight it :P

That's my list, what would be on yours?

Thank you for reading

NOTD: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On

Hey guys! Can't believe its already May. I finally found some time to paint my nails as they usually break off from me not taking care of them too well. Here are my nails of the day, from the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear collection in "White On".

I just love this shade! Its very opaque, hasn't chipped once, and is very wearable. I was originally going to paint them black but I think I threw it out a while ago. Oh well, its a nice refreshing change from wearing black. What are your favourite nail colours for the summer?

Thanks for reading!

How To Deal with Sensitive Skin

Hey guys! Many people believe they have sensitive skin, but do not have a clear idea of what is really is. It is not something that is easy to diagnose on your own, which is why you should see an doctor for a proper check-up. For those of you that have sensitive skin, it can be a challenge to find the right products for your skin's needs. I'm one of those "lucky" girls that have sensitive skin (oh, joy). When ever the weather changes, my hands and forearms get so irritated, and I admit that it's hard to resist scratching. there have been numerous times when my skin broke out do to a type of clothing detergent used to wash my clothes or a facial lotion that made my skin so red and irritated that it felt like it was burning up! I also have acne, which thankfully is under control by a couple prescriptions, and cleared it up right a way.

Thankfully, I outgrew some of the effects of having sensitive skin, but there are still a lot of effects that happen. To combat this crazy skin menace, here are some tips that I hope will help y'all out. But, I'm not a doctor, so take any issues up with one immediately, if you have any questions!

My Favourite Accessories for Spring

Hey there! I can't believe its already April. Where has the year gone ?!?! I feel as if I have just been studying for most of my waking hours,  but thank goodness its the weekend. I hardly did any shopping this month but I just couldn't resist sharing my favourite accessories for the spring. I have literally been wearing these few items all the time, because they go with almost every outfit I've been wearing lately.
The first one, is this cute scarf I bought from Garage, which is the Canadian equivalent to American Eagle or other stores with student-y type clothes. The scarf was an awesome find for $14.50 CAD. I love the skull pattern, as the skulls are made up of many types of print, like stripes and leopard print. There are small black ones along the edges of the scarf, and larger skulls that alternate between black rainbow coloured skulls. And, if I might add, it is a pretty huge rectangular scarf. I can wrap it around and wear it as a  maxi dress, or double it down as a skirt. It was the last one in the store, which makes it an even better find!

These earrings are so adorable! As soon as I saw them in the store, I bought them right away. I have been wearing these ones a lot this month, as they brighten up my outfit and somehow manage to make me looked more put together whenever I am sleep deprived and lazy. Mini sailboat earrings make everthing better. This came in a set with a plain pair of zirconia stud earrings, and a earrings modeled after the helm of a ship. The set was $9.99 from Claire's.

The next accessory I've been loving lately, is this ear cuff  that is also from Claire's ($7.50 CAD). Its designed to look like a tarnished and old piece of silver, which makes it so wearable. This is actually the same exact one that I bought during the summer, but I lost it at work.A few of my friends thought it was a real piercing until I removed it haha.

The last items on my list are these stunning bracelets that my friend gave me from Mexico. The detailing is eye catching and is just perfect for spring as they offer that bright pastel pop of colour to any outfit. I usually stack both and wear them with a cute top.

That was my list, what would be on yours? Thank you for reading, I'm off to bed now, before I turn into a zombie.
Goodnight

The Hunt for the Perfect Dress

Hello everyone! It's finally that time of year! As I'm approaching graduation, I am realizing that my time is slowly running out to find the perfect dress. I know a lot of girls that have already found theirs, but the hunt search has not been successful so far, in my case. It seems as though I am too picky, when it comes to choosing the right dress, when there are thousands of designs and colours right at my disposal. My ideal dress is a long gown, slightly fitted at the top, and flowy at the bottom, a light to medium-blue colour, strapless with a sweetheart neckline, and a satiny sheen. Too much? Who knows, maybe I'll find a frock that suits my strict criteria. What types of dresses are you all looking to wear on your prom night?

Until next time,

^_^

My Way: Atelier Versace Spring 2013 Eye Makeup

wwd.com

Hello you blogders! Today I am going to show you how to recreate this amazing smokey eye. Instead of being just a plain ol' smokey eye, the makeup artists took it to a new level, by adding a couple of simple details to it. As you can see in the photo, the addition of two foil shapes, possibly applied by using lash glue, are strategically placed, and balance out the smokey eye quite nicely. Well, let's begin!

My Lipgloss Trick

Hello everyone! How are you today? I can finally post pictures for tutorials and reviews, as I had a little virus scare on my computer, and was wary about uploading any photos. Now that it's over, I want to share this little trick with you guys. I was surprised that other beauty bloggers knew about this, as I made it up in middle school, but I realized that people have probably been using this way before my time.

This trick works with any type of lipgloss. I find that it works for every type of application as well, whether it is a doe-foot applicator or even a clean finger. This trick will make your lips appear smoother, a little bit plumper, as well as give it a cool 3-D effect.

In order for this to work properly, make sure your lips are properly exfoliated and moisturized. I know that the "traditional way" of applying lipgloss is to just slather it on and press your lips together, but I think it ends up looking messy. Also, the lipgloss would settle into the lines of the lips, making its look odd.

The next step is to apply the lipgloss in downward strokes, rather than horizontally on your lips. In an other way of putting this, start with your choice of applicator at the top portion of one of the lips, and just aplly it in a downwards motion, and prepeat on the other lip.

That's it! That's how easy my "secret" lipgloss trick is! You know have something new to try out, especially if your not one for lip plumpers or injections (ouchie).
